Digital Art in Motion with Scratch
Unleash creativity in the classroom by bringing digital art, animation, and interactive storytelling to life using Scratch. Participants will combine bold artistic ideas with intuitive block-based coding to build animated worlds, interactive artworks, and dynamic visual stories that respond, move, and engage. Through playful, project-based learning, teachers will develop skills in digital illustration, motion, and introductory programming while discovering powerful ways to spark student imagination through technology. By the end of the course, teachers will leave with a vibrant collection of Scratch creations and practical, ready-to-use strategies for weaving creative coding into the classroom.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Module 2: Bringing Art to Life with Code
● Select, place, and organize Sprites and Backdrops from the Scratch library.
● Snap together basic Motion and Look blocks to control movement and speech.
● Use the Green Flag trigger to launch automated visual animations.
Module 1: Getting Comfortable with Scratch
● Navigate the Scratch platform, website layout, and core workspace zones.
● Locate and save inspiring digital art projects created by other educators and artists.
● Build personal confidence with new technology in a low-stakes environment.
Module 4: Digital Storytelling & Classroom Integration
● Code scene changes by switching Backdrops over time.
● Sequence dialogue bubbles and character movements across multiple scenes.
● Create an implementation strategy for bringing Scratch projects into the art classroom.
Module 3: Designing Interactive Art & Sound
● Code interactive Event triggers
● Incorporate audio effects and music using the Scratch Sound Library.
● Apply visual changes (color shifts, size adjustments) based on user interaction.
