Book Study on A Year for the Books by Katie Walther and Maria Walther
This book contains multiple strategies for embedding literacy into your instruction -across subjects, contents and the school year. It will help teachers create student-centered reading communities within their classroom. The book will also help increase a love of reading in our students.
Pacing Guide:
Week 1: Introduction and Chapter 1
Week 2: Chapter 2
Week 3: Chapter 3
Week 4: Chapter 4
Week 5: Chapter 5
This course is completely asynchronous. Participants will answer discussion questions about strategies described in the book and how these strategies can be applied to their curriculum and instruction. Participants will respond to discussion posts from other participants and share their knowledge. This collaborative manner will allow for strong collegial discussions. A collaborative culture will be created during this book study. This book study will provide participants with practical strategies that can be immediately implemented in their classrooms. Participants will reflect on their own practices and focus on targeting areas that are in need of improvement, reflection or revision.
NOTE: Participants need to obtain a copy of the book prior to the start of the course.
