DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT
SOUTH COLONIE CSD

Timothy Backus is the Deputy Superintendent for the South Colonie Central School District. Mr. Backus has been a part of the South Colonie School District for over 30 years. He first joined the district in 1989, as a social studies teacher. Throughout his career at South Colonie CSD, Mr. Backus has held a variety of positions including Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Department Chair of Social Studies, Assistant Principal at Colonie Central High School and Curriculum Supervisor. As a Curriculum Supervisor, Mr. Backus would liaise with many different departments, including Reading, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Libraries and Music.

In addition to serving on the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center Policy Board, Mr. Backus also serves on the CASDA Greater Capital Region Principal Center’s Board. He is also the Chair of the University at Albany’s Academy for the Advancement of Teaching, Learning and Schools Advisory Board.

Mr. Backus has an M.S., an M.A., and a B.A. from the University at Albany.
