String Educators' Collaborative Reading Session: Connect, Share, and Explore New Repertoire with Fellow String Teachers
Join us for an enriching professional learning experience designed specifically for string educators in the New York Capital Region! Whether you are a seasoned veteran or just beginning your teaching journey, this collaborative session welcomes string teachers at all levels to come together, share favorite repertoire, and connect with colleagues in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
What to Expect
Please bring ensemble literature that has worked well with your students or compositions you are curious to explore, and share them with your colleagues in an informal, collaborative format. You'll have the opportunity to take the podium and conduct your selection while fellow educators perform, creating a rich exchange of musical ideas and teaching perspectives.
The focus will be on collegial sharing and exploration rather than polished performance, so pieces of any difficulty level are welcome and encouraged. This is your chance to discover new repertoire, reconnect with familiar favorites, and gain fresh insights into music that could work beautifully with your own ensembles. Midway through the session, we'll take a music reading break to share ideas and engage in conversation about string teaching topics, current challenges, and creative solutions. This promises to be an invaluable opportunity to build community and learn from one another's experiences.
What to Bring
• Your instrument (school cellos and basses available if needed)
• One or two favorite ensemble pieces with scores and parts to share
• An open mind and willingness to explore new music
The session will be held at Bethlehem Central High School, 700 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054. Your facilitators for this session will be David Beck, string teacher in the Bethlehem Central School District and NYASTA president and Renetta Tallman, string teacher in the Shenendehowa Central School District and NYASTA Secretary.
