Embracing Uncertainty in the Science Classroom

Science practice is about moving between a phenomenon and an explanation of how or why that phenomenon occurs. This involves a great deal of uncertainty, which scientists embrace, but our students tend to shy away from. If we want our students to engage in science and sensemaking, they need to become comfortable with uncertainty - not only in the greater science community, but in their own understanding. This uncertainty is where creativity lies, where real learning takes place.

In this completely asynchronous, online course we will collaborate to explore different types of uncertainty that arise in science and how to apply them to you teaching. We will explore strategies and tools to help build your students' resilience and make uncertainty part of the learning experience.
