Building a Trauma-Informed Restorative School

Are you curious about restorative and trauma-informed practices and the impact they could have on nuanced behavior issues that traditional behavioral systems just can't seem to address?

Join us for a summer book study entitled Building a Trauma-Informed Restorative School: Skills and Approaches for Improving Culture and Behavior by Joe Brummer, in which he outlines the five restorative skills of mindfulness, honest expression, empathy, the art of asking questions, and the art of requests and explains how to implement them in the context of circles, respect agreements, and restorative dialogue to create a trauma-informed school environment.

Participants will engage in weekly reflections and will leave this course equipped with specific strategies to implement restorative and trauma-informed practices to maximize student impact.

This book study is asynchronous and will run 5 weeks with the following pacing guide:

  • Week #1: Intro & Ch. 1-3 (p. 19-82)

  • Week #2: Ch. 4-9 (p. 83-130)

  • Week #3: Ch. 10-12 (p. 131-156)

  • Week #4: Ch. 13-15 (p. 157-196)

  • Week #5: Ch. 16 & Conclusion (p. 197-222)
